About SF

Svensk Filmindustri (SF) is one of the oldest and most respected film companies in the world. Ever since its foundation in 1919, the company has had a well-deserved reputation for producing some of the best-known films and filmmakers in the history of cinema. Over the decades this tradition of eminence has been fostered to excellent effect with such directors as Mauritz Stiller, Victor Sjöström, Arne Sucksdorff, Ingmar Bergman, Gustaf Molander, Bo Widerberg, Lasse Hallström and Colin Nutley and also actors of international repute such as Greta Garbo, Ingrid Bergman, Max von Sydow, Liv Ullman – and many, many more.

The new company became the biggest in Sweden with its own film production and some 70 theatres around the country. SF also had its own representation with offices in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, New York, Mexico City and Shanghai.

Today SF is the leading film company in the Nordic region with its head office in Stockholm, Sweden and subsidiaries in Oslo, Norway, Copenhagen, Denmark and Helsinki, Finland. The company produces feature films and content for TV and is also representing some very prestigious international film companies in this market. SF’s own production consists of some 20 – 25 feature films per year and with foreign films included the company distributes approximately 50 feature films per year.

This has also enabled us to accumulate a remarkable library of about 1,200 titles.

However, SF represents a great deal more than film production.
We are representing some of the most prestigious film companies in the world and are the leading player in the Nordic territory (Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland) in theatrical and video distribution.

We are tending our inheritance with its wealth of traditions and we are constantly developing our business to ensure our leading position – artistically and financially – for filmed entertainment.

Svensk Filmindustri is a member of The Bonnier Group, the leading media enterprise in the Nordic countries in businesses focused on consumer markets related to books, magazines, music, radio, film and TV. In short Svensk Filmindustri is a modern, focused and fast-growing film company.
